The Shop Laborer / Shop Assistant is responsible for performing light maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on cars, trucks, and off-road/agronomy equipment. This position supports daily operations by ensuring vehicles and equipment are maintained safely and efficiently in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. The role requires a strong focus on safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork while promoting a positive image of the cooperative.
Perform maintenance and repair work on vehicles and equipment, including breakdowns, malfunctions, and emergency roadside repairs, in a safe, efficient, and quality-focused manner
Provide support to mechanics and shop personnel as needed
Assist in minimizing vehicle and equipment downtime through timely maintenance and repairs
Maintain a positive attitude that promotes teamwork, productivity, and cooperation
Uphold all cooperative policies and ensure compliance with federal, state, DOT, and OSHA regulations
Work closely with Human Resources to maintain accurate truck licenses, insurance cards, and vehicle registrations
Supervise and assist with road tests for new employees, as assigned
Be available to work extended hours when business needs require
Communicate professionally with employees and leadership to foster positive morale and teamwork
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Current, valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
CDL preferred but not required (training available)
DOT certification (or ability to obtain)
Subject to pre-employment drug testing

Knowledge of engines, controls, and mechanical systems
Familiarity with agricultural vehicles and equipment
Welding and cutting skills preferred
Ability to safely operate various vehicles and equipment
Strong attention to safety, quality, and detail
Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions
Ability to push and pull equipment
Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs
Ability to grasp and use hand and power tools (e.g., wrenches)
Frequently works outdoors
Exposure to noise, weather conditions, and heights
